What is Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic®?
IQ Pilates® is the first studio in New Zealand to offer both Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic® in the country.
Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic® are part of a new exercise system called Gyrokinetics developed by a Hungarian dancer, Juliu Horvath. This technique exercises the musculature while mobilizing and articulating the joints. It simultaneously stretches and strengthens the body with minimal effort, while increasing range of motion and developing coordination.
Gryokinesis® is a group mat class. The system is based on the inner workings of the body developed from the practice of yoga. It was originally called "Yoga for Dancers". The workout involves a series of seated, standing and mat exercises performed with rhythmical energy. Exercises are focused on increasing the functional capacity of the spine. This class will improve flexibility, strength and co-ordination. Participants should have no injuries or special conditions to do this class. A 30 minute assessment is compulsory to enroll in Gyrokinesis®. This class is the same cost as a mat class.
Gyrotonic® is based on the principles of Gyrokinesis®. The exercises are performed on specially designed exercise equipment to enhance coordination, strength and flexibility. Exercises are performed in circular patterns with corresponding breathing patterns. Gyrotonic® can only be done in individual sessions where one to one tuition is needed. Participants first session must be an assessment.
