Since starting pilates in December 2006 I have really noticed the benefits. Before coming to pilates I was unaware of any imbalances in my movement patterns, such as weaker rotation to one side than the other. In the sport of kayaking being symmetrical is pretty vital to achieving maximal performance. When I first started I was unsure of how much the exercises in my pilates sessions could help my paddling ability, but as I progressed I really started to notice how small changes in my biomechanics could make a big improvement to my kayaking technique. Through a mixture of specific pilates exercises and Raewyn's expertise I have eliminated quite a few of the imbalances between my right and left side of my body and increased my body rotation greatly. I still have plenty of work to do but I'm excited to continue my work with pilates to continue to increase and compliment my paddling development.
